It’s Craft Beer Week here on Long Island, and, to honor that, I’m giving high marks to Blue Point Brewing Company Spring Fling Ale. It’s a seasonal copper ale, available from February to April, which means it might be hard to find, what with it being May, but it’s worth waiting for if it can’t be found until next year.
Blue Point is the anchor of Long Island craft breweries, and they’ve been making great beers for over ten years. Their most popular beer is their Toasted Lager, which is as easy to drink as any beer out there and is one of those beers that makes a good introduction to how craft beers are different from the industrials. Spring Fling is a bit more advanced, but IPA drinkers will find it mild. It’s got a pungency that I found very appealing. It’s palate-cleansing, so it goes great with salty foods. The unique quality of the beer, relatively light but with something sharp and cutting, is difficult to describe positively. I kept calling it “coppery,” but who wants to drink pennies? So, I’ll stick with my 25-cent word, pungent, and leave it at that. It’s a good beer, so don’t let my lack of vocabulary deter.
Spring Fling is a delicious brew from the great local minds at Bluepoint Brewery. Spring fling is still available at most Local beverage centers including all Superstar Beverage locations!
Thanks, Neil! We love Superstar! You guys are great.
