Christmas Blizzard
My wife wanted a peppermint drink to enjoy this holiday. I don’t keep peppermint schnapps on my liquor shelf, though, and this would normally present a challenge. But I approach cocktail recipes the same way I do making a meal–there is always a substitute. I have peppermint extract that we’ve used for holiday cookies. Some simple syrup and vodka combined with the peppermint extract would act as a decent equivalent for schnapps.
But equivalency isn’t a tasty drink. Instead, I decided to just use the peppermint extract as an ingredient in a quick cocktail. My wife is calling it a Christmas Blizzard after the blizzard that blew through here and left us enough time to experiment with cocktails.

Made with Irish cream and peppermint extract, this creamy drink is served cool, but warms you up as you enjoy it.
Christmas Blizzard
- 2oz Baileys Irish cream
- 1oz coffee liquor
- 1oz creme de cacao
- 2 drops peppermint extract
- 1oz whole milk, half-and-half, or light cream
- Enough ice to fill 1/3 of a Boston shaker
Combine all ingredients into a Boston shaker and shake. Strain into rocks glass. Enjoy!
This drink is awesome! A must have after digging out after a blizzard.
Hey Fervere, I have tried your peppermint drink. It’s brilliant. So I was wondering if you could come up with a nice buttery-sweet drink. Something reminiscent of English Toffee. Up for the challenge?
