Blue Moon Belgian White

Blue Moon Belgian White

Blue Moon Belgian White

  • Perfume, floral, slightly sour
  • Coriander; crisp, light beer
  • Malty finish

Again with the gifts! A good friend brought over some Blue Moon Belgian White over the holidays, but there was so much to drink and eat, I didn’t get to try one until a couple of days ago. It’s a decent, light ale made with white wheat and oat. The real highlight of the beer though is the coriander. It’s a sweet aromatic spice—oddly, the seed of cilantro. Lots of folks don’t like cilantro, describing it as soapy, but coriander is quite different. It’s a pretty unique flavor. Leinenkugel Sunset Wheat is a similar beer but has a stronger coriander flavor than the Blue Moon. I’m very partial to the flavor of coriander; however, it may be an acquired taste.

Like Sunset Wheat, it’s recommended to serve Belgian Ale with a slice of orange. That’s nice to do when I’ve got an orange, but I don’t, so I didn’t. The beer is nice and light and flavorful without it.
